overview

Evolution is nothing without tradition. When Wilier developed the Zero.7, they understood how essential it is to avoid wasting even one watt of power on the road. In designing their time trial bikes, they learned how to control the flow of air. Wilier's experience with the Cento1 established that the perfect balance between comfort and stiffness is possible with an integrated seatmast and is vital for those who demand the best performance from their bike. They combined the best of these models, and then the insight and experience of Wilier Triestina did the rest.

Wilier Triestina Cento1SR
The evolution begins today.

Intergraded Cables System - allows compatibility for both mechanical and electronic groups without compromising the beautiful lines of the frame design.

BB386EVO is the new Wilier Triestina - FSA designed integrated bottom bracket. The box that contains the BB is wider than most at 86.5 mm, and has a diameter of 46 mm to accept a particularly light and stiff carbon crankset with a 30 mm aluminum spindle. Testing has shown that it increases stiffness by 30% and reduces dispersion of power to nearly Zero. It is also compatible with most prominent traditional cranksets.

Taperd Head Tube - The top of the headtube measures 1”1/8 while the base is 1”1/4. This differentiation is slight, but it allows for an optimal balance of stiffness and maneuverability of the bike, while keeping a focus on lightness and comfort.

Nanoparticle Treatment - To minimize the risk of breakage, we use a very low density Zinc Oxide nanoparticle epoxy resin in our composites. This resin also makes the carbon more compact by filling in the microscopic spaces between the fibers more thoroughly.

60 Ton Carbon - The perfect balance between stiffness, comfort, and strength comes from a well selected combination of carbon fibers with different properties. In the Cento1 SR frame, the most stressed parts are reinforced with the super-strong MR60H fiber, that can withstand 60 tons of pressure per square millimeter. This fiber allows us to obtain the desired stiffness while using less material, thereby reducing weight.

Large Inflatable Tube - The perfect balance between stiffness, comfort, and strength comes from a well selected combination of carbon fibers with different properties. In the Cento1 SR frame, the most stressed parts are reinforced with the super-strong MR60H fiber, that can withstand 60 tons of pressure per square millimeter. This fiber allows us to obtain the desired stiffness while using less material, thereby reducing weight.

THE SPECIES EVOLUTION
The BB386EVO system takes the oversized bottom bracket design concept, which was successfully introduced by Wilier Triestina in the Cento1 model and subsequent variations, to its next evolution. To obtain an unprecedented stiffness at a crucial point of the frame, we have devised an innovative system that can perfectly incorporate an ultra-stiff crank into an ultra-stiff  frame. The traditional BB30 system proved inadequate because it requires a frame with a 68 mm box, which is too narrow to deliver the degree of stiffness that we wanted. With this in mind, we developed the new standard BB386EVO in collaboration with FSA, which pairs a carbon crank with a longer 30 mm spindle and a wider 86.5 mm bottom bracket box

BENEFIT
  • BB386EVO confers stiffness to the Cento1 SR’s bottom bracket area that is significantly superior to that of an ordinary BB30 box.
  • The problem of tolerances has been resolved with the press fit system. The bearings are embedded in a polymer shell that can be precisely manufactured to fit inside the frame’s 46 mm diameter opening.
  • BB386EVO is compatible with most traditional standards on the market.

Wilier Triestina has taken full advantage of the BB386 EVO bottom bracket standard it developed with FSA and BH with the new Cento1SR's hugely oversized tubes. It's immensely stiff, as one would expect, but despite appearances it's a fantastically comfortable bike for the long haul, too.

Received the frame set about 3 weeks ago and built the frame up with Super Record and it is simply beautiful. I have roughly 60 miles on so far and it is much stiffer than my 2009 Cento uno. It is not a harsh ride, rather it is a much more efficient design that allows the bike to surge forward instead of twisting under acceleration. This is most noticeable during sprints and out of the seat climbing. Great bike and the twohubs crew have been fantastic!
